Reading has long been the simplest way for humans to transfer ideas in order to gain detailed knowledge from various sources. In the era of digitization, eBooks have become a powerful source of information that offer the added benefits of accessibility and instantaneity.
On October 6, the Novateca Program, in partnership with Bestseller company, launched a common project entitled “Your e-Bookshelf,” which offers library visitors the possibility to download free e-books on their tablets and cellphones. The e-bookshelf offers a large choice of electronic books, both world known classics and modern novels.
“This initiative is an excellent example of merging traditional library functions with new technology and approaches. The eBookshelf poster will expand public access to literature and also help spread the use of modern tools,” highlighted Evan Tracz, Director of Novateca Program.
The e-bookshelf will be delivered to the 800 public libraries that are part of the Novateca network, so that library users can download the books they want and read in their spare time. Library patrons can import books on their electronic devices by using the QR codes displayed on the e-Bookshelf posters. New literature will be available free of charge on the user’s device almost instantaneously.
“The young generation does not read less than previous generations. Only the reading method has changed. Nowadays, every teenager has a smartphone that he uses to communicate with friends, listen to music or read books,” mentioned Ion Bargan, Director of Bestseller. “Your e-Bookshelf”, launched in partnership with Novateca program offers world known classics, that are studied in schools, as well as modern novels which became bestsellers in the Republic of Moldova and Romania.”
The special guest of the event, Andreea Russo, author of the novel series “Memories from the Future” gave a presentation and led an open discussion with the participants. The attendees were also invited to share their memories in an interactive game called “Past memories, Future memories,” followed by an autograph session.
The event was held as part of the National Public Library Awareness Campaign called “See you at the library”. The campaign aims to inform the general public about the new opportunities and innovative services offered by modernized public libraries throughout Moldova. The campaign will be run until December 2016 and covers more than 800 public libraries from all over the country.
Novateca encourages everyone to visit their public libraries, browse collections, sample modern services, and download and read free eBooks of many different genres. See you at the library!
