What is a RoboClub?
In 2016, the Novateca program equipped 7 public libraries with robotics kits and facilitated the opening of robotics clubs in the libraries of Causeni, Falesti, Rezina, Teleneşti, Drujba, Izbiste and Voinova. With the support of community volunteers, librarians train children and young people in robot programming activities, encouraging them to apply STEM knowledge and develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Since robotics clubs opening, over 200 users were trained in coding and programming of robots at public libraries.
In February, all seven library roboclubs participated in the FIRST LEGO League Moldovanational competition, where they demonstrated outstanding teamwork and critical thinking skills. The children impressed the jury with innovative solutions, and the teams from the Causeni and Falesti public libraries won special awards and competed in the international contest in Estonia, where the robotics team from Causeni won the special prize ‘Robot Mechanics’.
Robotic clubs have proven to be of interest to many audiences such as library visitors who have improved their school performance in STEM subjects, librarians who have diversified their library services offer for community members, public and media representatives who have intensively promoted the important achievements of library robotics teams.
