The Orhei Regional Training Center helps social workers learn how to use technology and serve community members in new and innovative ways.
After partnering with the Novateca program and receiving new computers and IT training, the Orhei Public Library is now positioned as a community center that not only offers free access to computer and internet but also, provides the community members with a space to develop their own project proposals and to practice their skills.
Thus, a first collaboration in this direction has been established between the librarians and the social workers from Orhei. The latter mentioned have the possibility to improve their IT skills through a one-week training-course organized by the Orhei regional trainers.
”I am very happy to rediscover our Public library. It has completely changed, being equipped with modern technologies. Moreover, the librarians are more motivated and well trained. Traditionally, the library served as a storehouse for books. But now it has turned into a center for professional and human development,” mentioned Costin Maria, a social worker from the village of Isacova.
As a result of this training, the social workers will become proficient in accessing useful online information related to social assistance, developing and maintaining databases, enhancing their communication skills with the LPA representatives, as well as improving the organization of their work with the community members.
“Our Minister has developed an Automated Informational System to communicate with the social workers and keep them updated, but we don’t use it effectively, because many of our workers don’t know how to use computers and access the information online. We are very happy to have established this partnership,” explained Adriana Buciuşcan, representative of the Social Assistance Department in Orhei.
Additionally, during the training courses, the participants discussed and developed a plan of action towards the prevention of domestic violence in the community. The plan will be implemented together by librarians and social workers. A follow up workshop will be organized in August to discuss the results and challenges faced.
The Orhei Public Library has already had success in attracting the social workers to the library and plans to become a key place for future joint activities, to address domestic violence, reuniting disadvantaged children with distant parents through modern technologies or helping those who face a disability improve their lives with the help of the library. This training course will be soon replicated in the Telenesti raion.
