The semi-finalist list of raions for inclusion in the Novateca library network!

Novateca is pleased to announce the semi-finalist list of raions for inclusion in the Novateca library network. A committee consisting of government partners, Novateca staff, library leaders and professionals from NGOs and other partners facilitated a very competitive semi-finalist selection process.

This was only the first of many selection rounds that will take place in the coming years, and there were many logistical and organizational considerations and constraints that ultimately shaped the decision-making process. Therefore, raions and libraries that were not selected in this round should not be discouraged. We encourage you to continue to work with your libraries to ensure they will be ready next year for inclusion in the network. Raions that applied but were not selected in this round will have access to a simplified application process in future rounds.

In alphabetical order, the following raions were selected as semi-finalists:

  • Anenii Noi
  • Bălți
  • Briceni
  • Călărași
  • Căușeni
  • Chișinău
  • Edineț
  • Fălești
  • Florești
  • Hâncești
  • Ialoveni
  • Orhei
  • Rezina
  • Șoldănești
  • Ștefan-Vodă
  • Taraclia
  • Telenești
  • Ungheni

In this next phase of the selection process Novateca will visit each semi-finalist raion library and up to five local libraries in each raion.

During the visits to raion libraries, Novateca staff will interview the proposed candidates for Training Center Coordinator, IT Specialist, and Trainer. Additionally, the library’s infrastructure will be assessed to determine if it meets the necessary requirements for a training center. Each semi-finalist raion library will receive a letter indicating the date and time of the visits. Please ensure that the head of the department of culture, the raion library director, and all proposed candidates are present for interviews on the appointed day. All visits to semi-finalists will take place during the month of June.

In most cases, all local libraries proposed on the application with the raion library are also considered semi-finalists. Novateca will randomly select between 2-5 local libraries from each raion to be visited. These visits will assess the local libraries infrastructure to determine if they are on track to meet the necessary requirements indicated in their proposal, and suggest possible improvements or changes.

Please be informed that inclusion in the list of semi-finalists does not guarantee that a library is selected for inclusion in the program. As a result of the visits and further assessment of the semi-finalist libraries, a list of finalists for inclusion in the Novateca network will be developed and announced by the beginning of July.

Novateca would like to thank all applicants for their submissions and interest in the program, congratulate the semi-finalists, and reiterate that opportunities to join the network will continue to be open to all Moldovan public libraries in the years ahead.
