Press release reproduced from the website of the partner siguronline.md

In the context of the Cybersecurity Month, the International Center “La Strada”, in partnership with the Novateca Program will conduct informative seminars for Moldovan librarians. Throughout the seminars, librarians will find useful information and discover new opportunities to transform libraries into vibrant community centers.

Thus, on 2 October, 2014, at the “Dimitrie Cantemir” Raion Public Library was organized an informative seminar for 30 librarians from the Ungheni raion. During the sessions, the librarians were informed about cybersecurity, the risks posed to children in the Internet and how adults can help children in sensitive situations and prevent cases of child abuse.

Guided by the informed librarians, citizens will benefit from free access to modern technologies, and will have the necessary support in risk management and confidence building in online services and content.

TOPICS OF THE SEMINARS

  • Advantages/Disadvantages of the Internet
  • The dimension of the problem. How are children protected in the virtual environment
  • The risks posed to children

Warning mechanisms were developed to report all types of content and contacts that seem harmful for children, in order for children and parents to be able to manage risks such as cyberbullying or online harassment/aggression (grooming). These mechanisms are available and integrated on the website www.siguronline.md
