As libraries evolve, they are much more than books

Novateca is happy to announce that Moldova was privileged to welcome a world-renowned librarian, who challenged the Moldovan librarians and the representatives of local public administrations to be creative, to think out of the box and to look, find and implement low-cost innovative ideas in the libraries.

The entire visit created a big buzz among librarians because she announced a hard to believe truth: “It is possible to turn a library into a modern and vibrant space with low funds.” This truth seems impossible for many librarians in Moldova, so they armed themselves with many questions and tried to find out all the details.

During her first day here, Pam participated at one of the Novateca’s orientation event, that we call START (more about the START event can be found here) organized at Calarasi Raion Library Training Center.

At the event, Pam opened the discussions with a motivational speech and creative examples from her libraries (the Anythink Library Network), that aimed at inspiring librarians, maiors and other public representatives from Moldovan villages to think that with low funds, but with enthusiastic and creative staff the library can turn into a warm, welcoming and responsive community space.

Pam has demonstrated the low-cost changes that were made by Anythink Library, and spoke about the importance of the staff full engagement in the process.

Additionally, during the visit, Pam had the chance to meet different level librarians at the Annual National Librarians Conference organized by the Association of Librarians as well as at the National Center for Librarians Professional Excellence created at the Chisinau Municipal Library.

During these meetings, librarians could not stop asking questions on different issues, especially related to library spacing, new services, creativity process, repositioning the library in the community etc.
