On Friday, January 22nd 2016, the Ocnița Public Library, in partnership with IREX Moldova/Novateca and local public administration officials, opened the Ocnița Training Center for librarians and citizens of the raion. The President of the Ocnița raion, Vasile Romaniuc, Head of the Ocnița Culture Department, Ludmila Belanoșca, Deputy Mayor of Ocnița city, Victor Artamaniuc, and Novateca Program Director Evan Tracz, all took part in the event.
The Ocnița Raion President, Vasile Romaniuc thanked Novateca for its contribution to the modernization of public libraries in Ocnița by equipping them with modern technology and offering training assistance so that libraries have become active and vibrant centers in the village.
Evan Tracz welcomed the opening of the Center, noting that it was the result of consolidated effort between librarians, local public authorities and Novateca. Novateca believes that libraries can become true community centers, active platforms that provide access to information and lifelong learning, and services that respond to community needs.
The Ocnița Training Center was established with financial support of the Novateca Program, as well as raion authorities, and aims to provide citizens with free internet access and innovative information services, as well as trainings for librarians from throughout the raion.
The center, like all Novateca partner library training centers, is equipped with modern computers and peripheral equipment, in order to facilitate training of library staff and provide modern information services for citizens. Librarians and trainers received extensive training-for-trainers sessions organized by Novateca to support the development of skills and knowledge in IT, modern library practices, and techniques for creating new library services that address community needs.
