Study visit at the public library in Calarasi
The Calarasi Public Library organized Friday, February 15, a study tour for a group of 16 librarians and representatives of local government. For one day, visitors had the opportunity to learn all the details of the project “A chance for all” initiated by the library in partnership with the Calarasi branch of the National Employment Agency (NEA).
Library director Galina Agafita presented the project and its implementation at each stage, the encountered difficulties and challenges, the obtained results, and its impact on the community. Project partners have emphasized the role of the library in the project and in training job seekers.
Round Table on Peace Corps Volunteers engagement
Novateca held a one-day round-table discussion of ways to foster the collaboration between Peace Corps Volunteers and librarians, on Friday, February 7, 2014. The round-table targeted volunteers and librarians from 13 localities across Moldova and focused on how they can better work together to enhance community development through the implementation of common initiatives.

Moldovan Libraries Innovations Fair
On Tuesday, December 3, 2013, IREX’s Novateca program, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, the National Library, the Moldovan Library Association, and the Moldovan library community, organized the first “Library Innovations Fair” to showcase and discuss the most innovative services and practices in libraries across Moldova.
Modern institutions: Moldova launches electronic payment service through the library
The Moldovan government launched its new online payment service, M-pay, at the Orhei District Public Library in central Moldova. Through IREX’s Novateca project, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in cooperation with USAID, contemporary public libraries like the one in Orhei support the expansion and promotion of new services like M-pay to community groups, while facilitating public internet access and e-governance tools, in addition to traditional library services.
