Orhei Public Library hosted the launch event of the online payment service M-Pay

On September 17, 2013 the Orhei Public Library hosted the launch of the governmental online payment service: M-Pay. The event was attended the Pime Minister Iurie Leanca, Dorin Draguțanu, the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Ion Ştefîrţă, the President of the Orhei Raion Council, Lidia Sitaru, the Director of the "Alexandru Donici" Public Library, as well as other partners and guests. The Orhei Raion Public Library is one of the six regional training centers of the Novateca pilot network, and serves as a training center for the Orhei village libraries and adult population, as well as a free internet access point for the entire Orhei community.

First Meeting of the Novateca Advisory Board

On June 25th, Novateca held the first meeting of the newly created Novateca Advisory Board. The board was established to guide Novateca’s activities and, in doing so, to bring experience and strategies to support the sustainable development of the library system in Moldova.

The board is composed of eleven distinguished leaders from the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Information Technology and Communications, Ministry of Education, Parliament, National Library of Moldova, e-Government Center, Moldtelecom and academia.

Meeting with Pavel Filip, Minister of Information Technology and Communications

Evan Tracz, the Director of IREX Moldova/Novateca Program met with Pavel Filip, Minister of Information Technology and Communications on Thursday, July 4, 2013. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the opportunities to strengthen the ongoing cooperation with the ministry earlier established through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the parts. Furthermore, the meeting was also established to discuss the national grant proposal submitted for the extension of the Novateca program to a national scale, as well as future possibilities to enhance, through Novateca, the cooperation between Moldovan libraries and the ministry, in the framework of the Digital Moldova 2020 Strategy.

IT assistance to social assistants

The Orhei Regional Training Center helps social workers learn how to use technology and serve community members in new and innovative ways.

After partnering with the Novateca program and receiving new computers and IT training, the Orhei Public Library is now positioned as a community center that not only offers free access to computer and internet but also, provides the community members with a space to develop their own project proposals and to practice their skills.

Moldovan Raion Libraries to Become Engines for Community Development and Library Innovation

On February 11, 2012, Novateca and the Leova Raion Public Library inaugurated the first Training Center in its pilot network of libraries offering free public access to internet, training for librarians, and expanded library services for the local community. The ribbon on the new center was collectively cut by the representative of the Minister of Culture Dina Ghimpu, Deputy Chief of U.S Mission in Moldova Kara McDonald, Sandra Fried of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Leova Raion President Efrosinia Grețu. The event was also attended by the First Lady of the Republic of Moldova, Margareta Timofti, and local community leaders.
